What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the insertion of thin, sterile needles into acupuncture points located on the body's various energy pathways. The needles are disposable and discarded after one use.
Acupuncture is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This medicine is a complete system of healing the body, mind and spirit. It originated in China thousands of years ago and is still practiced worldwide.
Traditional Chinese Medicine's theory is based upon the principle that Qi (pronounced "chee") is the natural flow of energy in the body. Disease or pain occur when Qi is obstructed, weak or out of balance. Good health and well-being are achieved when Qi is abundant, strong and free-flowing.
The therapies of Traditional Chinese Medicine are used to promote and encourage Qi's free circulation. The goal is to restore harmony to a person's energy and Qi. To accomplish this, many different techniques are used such as acupuncture, cupping, Chinese medical massage (called "tuina"), food therapy, meditation, and herbal remedies.
Acupuncture is a safe, effective healing technique that is drug-free and without side-effects.
